The following is a transcript of the update video which you can view here!
I want to give a little bit of an update on this year, especially for those people who've been supporting us these last few years in our work with both Island Breeze and Rescue Story.
So this year has seen a lot of really great opportunities with Rescue Story and with the Worship Ministries there. 2023 was my third year as a chairperson of Worship in the City. I led Worship again that morning, brought together a team of community members, a pretty different group than I've had before. I had open auditions and heard a lot of good feedback. People just really loved seeing their community represented in worship in the community and seeing the growth in that as we've had some more churches come on and continuing to plan that for 2024.
At the beginning of summer we went to Red Rock to do some training with the staff that was there who would be leading worship and was able to do a seminar with them as part of their staff training camp. Later in the summer we took a team of musicians back to Red Rock during their teens camp and led a worship night. That was a lot of fun, a very excited group, a lot of energy. I don't think I've ever felt the chapel at Red Rock shake that much, but also a really meaningful time. It's amazing the walls that break down and the opportunities that through that experience, through experience of worship makes a lot of space for students to talk to their counselors, to share openly, to either make commitments to Christ or just to share some really big struggles and get support from their counselors. That was a real highlight of the summer.
In fall we collaborated with Steinbach Bible College on Xpedition Now, which is a one-day SBC promotional event but also brings together lots of youth for an exciting day of worship, teaching, as well as in the afternoon they spend doing a bunch of fun challenges of various kinds. So we worked together with the Bible College combining some rescue story resources and my leadership together with some of the SBC students helping with that as well.
This was the second year in a row that we went into Love Lives Here for their Christmas, chilly supper that they do for their homeless outreach in downtown Winnipeg. It's a bit of a come and go, they have a lot of giveaways, a lot of warm clothes that they give out and we helped provide just some Christmas background music with that. So that was me, Alissa, and Anders actually came along to play cajon. It's a kind of low pressure situation and yeah he did a great job so that's exciting and he had a great time doing that.
And then after Christmas here we led worship for Treasured Foundation which is the EMMC conferences youth convention and so that happened at Steinbach Bible College, the building that they used for that and that was four nights at the college leading worship for the youth. Again we did a worship night and a great time fulfilling my big mission with Rescue Story which is to do exactly that kind of thing.
The goals that I have for 2024 are to kind of do more of the same, to try to reach out and connect with maybe a few more camps for over the summer, to do events like that, to continue to do training, especially some training in sound.
At SBC I did a one credit module in fall where I taught sound tech principles and there's a lot of churches in the area that as I connect with them through my various roles. There's a lot of churches that are looking for some expertise in technical areas and in sound and so I've just yeah felt a calling to try to be more involved in that, find opportunities for that. I think God's given me a heart and he's given me skills and a bit of a unique position where I can come into some of these churches as a trusted worship leader and not just a salesperson who wants to sell them some new tech but as a worship leader who is doing this and who's visiting a lot of churches that can give them some advice on some of their next steps to advance their worship ministry.
So Rescue Story represents kind of about a fifth to a quarter of my time as kind of my support allows for. So half of my time I'm employed half time at Providence College doing videography for them so that's ranges from promotional and marketing style material to actual course material. Part of my time is spent at Steinbeck Bible College so that's kind of a day a week is with Free Servant is their deputation worship team that I direct that I travel with so we go and we visit churches representing Steinbach Bible College and I love that that gives me opportunity to on a weekly basis be practicing, be teaching young people principles of worship leading encouraging them and that helping them grow and and visiting churches leading in worship connecting with just a ton of different places which I've really enjoyed these last few years being able to do that.
Our family and myself we deeply appreciate all of your support all your prayers and just following along with us as we've taken this journey the last few years. People ask me what I do when I say it's I do I do a few things but I love that God has brought me to a place where through music I've gained skills in video and been able to find part-time employment in that but I've also been able to keep things varied and also keep everything in in an art space and in a ministry space that has just felt like a calling whether directly in ministry or supporting ministries, seeing the heart of Providence College, being at SBC and teaching and discipling students and visiting churches leading worship these have all just been fantastic opportunities that I feel like God has really prepared me well for and it's a space I want to continue to grow in opportunities as God brings them forward to to use these skills.
While Rescue Story and that supported work is a piece, it's having that backing to do those things that kind of lets me just say yes, as God continues to provide in various ways, when there's opportunities I say yes and that's a big important thing that you enable me to do.
Happy New Year to everyone thank you again for your support if you have any questions always reach out to us and if you would like to know more about getting on our financial support team again you can contact myself and I can get you information on how to do that.
